I have always admired people who had artistic ability. I began painting and sketching when I was 12. I decided that I was okay and pursued art after being accepted into the visual arts program at Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham, AL where I was already attending for music. For the next 4 years I continued to work in all types of medium. I did a summer program with the Art Institute of Chicago, traveled to Paris and observed all of the street artists and their varying styles, and ultimately did an internship with Sloss Metal Arts Program in Birmingham, AL. When I graduated I applied and was accepted to many different colleges some of which were Pratt Institute, Savannah College of Art and Design, University of Montevallo, and Memphis College of Art to name a few. In June after graduation I became pregnant and decided to go to school close to home and family. I attended the University of Montevallo where I majored in art for 1 semester. I then transferred to a junior college close to my home where I remained until enrolling in Samford University where I changed my major to Education since there was no steady income in art to support myself and my son. I graduated in December, 2006 from Samford University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. I hadn’t painted in almost 5 years when my fiancé at the time began asking me to try painting again since I had once enjoyed it so much. I began painting and fell in love all over again. My husband and I got married in December 2006. I am now painting in my spare time after work and feel privileged to have a husband that supports me in whatever I undertake.
